How often do you find yourself in a position where you feel out of your element? What emotions do you feel during those moments when you’re attempting a task, caught in an environment you’ve never been, or experiencing something that is simply foreign to you?
It’s safe to say that being out of our element creates anxiety, a test on our patience and at times frustration. As strong individuals, we thrive on being in control of most all life situations.
I am the fortunate owner of a small hobby farm in North Dakota, along the Red River. I’ve owned this property since 2006 and have enjoyed every day I get to spend there, albeit those moments often challenge me.
When spring planting comes around, I am always testing my patience with equipment “know how”. Even though I worked on a farm every summer during high school, have enjoyed my farm for almost nine years and enjoy agriculture; it does not come easy for me and as such, I am out of my element.
The #Balance for me is recognizing that I love being at the farm and I simply need to slow down. Being out of our element is primarily time driven as I see it. We all want things done yesterday or in expedited fashion. When we struggle with tasks that should be simple, we immediately feel we are wasting time. The answer as I see it is remembering it’s all a learning lesion, even if we think we should have all the answers by now.
So on this Friday, as we head into the weekend, the message remains the same. We just need to slow down, continue to learn, enjoy being out of our element and find our #Balance.
Have a great weekend.
