Every aspect of our day, we make decisions based on our personal preferences. We all have our favorites, our needs/wants and our routine. Have you ever thought about your preferences as it relates to your day?
Coffee black…Coffee with cream and sugar
Brownbag lunch…lunch via drive-through
Afternoon diet soda with almonds…. afternoon protein shake
When did you establish such defined preferences or are you very fluid in your day? I’d make the argument for a 50/50 split amongst all of us, half being very strict about our preferences and our day and the balance very fluid in what they desire daily. I personally default to the extreme end of the strict about preferences.
This leads me to believe our preferences follow our routine, our routine follows our lifestyle and our lifestyle follows our personality type.
Ultimately being flexible is the best path in life, as I have come to determine. Knowing that you might have to drink C-store coffee, the diet soda you prefer may need to be replaced with the “other brand” and the choice for lunch may not be your favorite, yet still offers a healthy alternative are all examples of being flexible.
Easier said than done of course. My personal default to maintaining preferences is being prepared. Every time I leave the house for any extended period of time, I think about my meals, my routine and my preferences. While it certainly adds to the time it takes to get out the door, I do find my days very consistent.
Ohh yea….I am supposed to be flexible. ☺
